Installation instructions

These four steps have to be followed the first time you want to run one of the VegAna programs. Although they may seem rather laborious, subsequent runs are much faster and actualisations of the program will occur automatically when available.

1)  Installation of JRE 1.5.x

As VegAna programs are written using Java Script, it is necessary to have a Java Virtual Machine to run them. If you already have a Java Runtime Environment (JRE), you must take into account that, in order to run the VegAna software you should have JRE 1.5.x or a later version. Unlike previous releases, the latest JRE comes with, Java Web Start  (JWS) which is used to launch VegAna modules and update the programs.

Operating System JRE 1.5.x downloads
Windows / Linux / Solaris http://www.java.com/

Macintosh OS X

J2SE version 1.5 for Mac OS X is now available for download and from software update: http://developer.apple.com/java/download/

2) Acceptance of the authenticity certificate

Programs running with JWS cannot access your hard disk or printer by default. Such a precaution is observed, as with Java applets, to prevent damage to your system. However, as VegAna cannot run without reading ad saving files, you must accept a certificate which authentifies the program you are running, giving access to your machine. To allow this access you will first need to download our certificate and install it in your Java Web Start.

    a) Download our program's certificate

    b) Execute Java Web Start Application Manager (after step 1 you'll probably have an icon on your desktop) and go to 'Preferences' in the 'File' menu. Then import the certificate and include it to the list of providers you trust.

3) Execution of programs

4) User Registration

Although it is not compulsory, we would like to ask you to register as a user of our VegAna package. On one hand, we would like to know which type of users we have, and on the other we intend to send information about bug corrections and new features by e-mailing our users.

Thank you very much for using VegAna.
